John Nguyen is a Vietnamese-American flutist from Beaverton, Oregon. As a soloist, he won the Alexander & Buono International Flute Competition, National Flute Association Adult Amateur Soloist Competition, National Flute Association Masterclass Performers Competition, National Flute Association Collegiate Flute Choir Competition, Metropolitan Youth Symphony Concerto Competition, and Rose City Wind Symphony Young Artist Solo Competition.
He was a top prizewinner/finalist in numerous other competitions including the National Federation of Music Clubs Ernest A. Bluhm Flute Competition, Florida Flute Association Collegiate Young Artist Competition, Flute Society of Kentucky Collegiate Soloist Competition, and Greater Portland Flute Society Young Artist Competition.
Active in his community, John was recognized as the finalist of the National Flute Association C.R.E.A.T.E. Competition for founding the Lavang Youth Chamber Orchestra. He was also awarded the Oregon Music Hall of Fame Scholarship, Beaverton Arts Foundation Scholarship, and Beaverton Arts Program Small Project Grant, among others.
John graduated magna cum laude from the University of Texas at Dallas with a bachelor's degree in computer science. By day, John works as a software engineer.
